Cerebral Hack Reviews: OCZ NIA Training Software 3.0

OCZ NIA IP owners Brainfingers have announced their New training Software for the NIA and hints at their Beta SDK Release!

“We have completed a beta SDK that we will be releasing. Before we release the SDK we need to release new nia software as it will become the basis for the SDK.

The new software includes an updated Pong Game. The game can be controlled by any of the 8 brainfingers. I have also added a new dynamic following functionality to the calibration process. It is called Auto-Balance. I am hoping it will improve performance of the alpha and beta brainfinger controllers. Auto-Balance involves performing a calibration as in previous nia software, but once the calibration is performed the software then dynamically but slowly follows the calibrated balance point of each brainfinger.
The new software also includes the ability to save any user settings you make from one session with the nia to the next. User settings are the signal adjustments (shift, magnify and smooth), auto-balance and some new capabilities I have added to the signal adjustment of the alpha and beta brainfingers. Now you will be able to select what center frequencies you want to use for the alpha and beta frequencies. For example in the literature some people feel that Gamma is an interesting place to look. You can set the center of a beta brainfinger from 16Hz to 42Hz for example. Alpha brainfinger center frequencies can be set between 1 and 15.5Hz. Since your user settings will be saved from one session to the next, once you set the brainfinger center frequencies the software will remember them from session to session.
Before I can release the beta SDK I need to have nia users test the new software to make sure the new functionality is working.”
- Auto Balance Works GREAT. Not needing to deal with the sliders like the older version to get a calibration signal bellow the line. However should the sliders be completely taken away for manual adjustment?
- More choices for key binding is ++
- GUI Interface tweeks were much needed
- The fact the Help file is a separate file not inside the software is a big improvement I think for newcomers as the old version was hard to read
- (Possibly due to the Auto Balance?) Triggers in general seem more responsive
- Adjustments to Pong to include Alpha 1-3 and Beta 1-3 are a GREAT and MUCH NEEDED addition for those wanting to practice using these. I’m wondering is there a better way of practicing this than a linear up and down movement? Considering it needs to be fluent and timing needs to be precise, am I right in guessing the higher the A1 goes up, the paddle follows the waves path in an upward motion as well?
- Can no longer open a secondary instance of the software….this MUST be fixed plz plz plz (Edit this has been resolved, more than one instance can now be ran)
Over all this is a 100% Improvement on the Interface and Functionality on the NIA software. Awesome Job guys/gals….now bring on the SDK! :P
Here are some screenys from the new version

This OCZ NIA looks like the real deal, its affordable has an SDK and also welcomes developers to develop applications without constricting them with ridiculous licencing jargon, it looks like its universal and can be configured to just about anything.
I think i could afford to give it a try as it is on Amazon.co.uk for a few quid.
Brainfingers , i like it . This is hotcakes me thinks. :)
