How will Meshnets get adopted beyond early adopters and enthusiasts? Entertainment.
Last week I got a VIP offer from Spotify for a new device called a Gramofon (They had a Kickstarter that completed in lat May earlier this year. It connects to an audio system and acts like a Spotify receiver, and your phone or tablet act as the remote control.
The true genius of this is a little deeper.
Gramofon is a device distributed by Fon , “a company that operates a system of dual access wireless networks.” Fon members share their wireless bandwidth in exchange for access to others bandwidth when not at home basically. The Gramofon also acts as a wireless signal extender and AP. While I have not gotten my device yet, it already seems like a beautiful Trojan Horse attempt/experiment/idea to spread the idea of how networks beyond how we use them now can be used to connect each other. I’m interested to see what happens, if anything at all. It was one of those shower moments where I thought to myself this really can truly be something that works with the right structure and transparent intentions.
Just a couple weeks ago, I was watching the talk from New York’s HOPE conference from the boys at NYC Meshnet . To familiarize you with the “How Do I” or “Should I” it’s worth the 52min watch if not just to see what people are up to in attempts to have decentralized network and internet.
